Founded in 2016 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, THE BEAN was born from transformation. It began when our founder, Khin, stepped into a struggling coffee venture and chose to rebuild it, intentionally, thoughtfully, and with purpose.
​
Rather than chasing trends or rapid expansion, we focused on what truly matters: quality beans, honest craftsmanship, meaningful spaces, and genuine human connection. Every cup is treated not just as a product, but as part of a larger story, one of resilience, growth, and community.

Over time, this values-driven approach earned trust and evolved into a respected coffee brand, supported by a growing community of over 1,500 members who believe in our philosophy and standards.

As we approach our 10th anniversary in 2026, THE BEAN enters its next chapter with clarity and intention. We are consolidating into a flagship-led model, allowing us to deepen quality, strengthen our identity, and focus on long-term sustainability. Our flagship space represents the purest expression of our brand, where coffee, culture, and community meet.
Backed by our in-house roastery, we roast and supply over 10,000kg of coffee beans annually to our flagship, partners, and collaborators, ensuring full control from sourcing to roasting to cup.

Beyond Malaysia, THE BEAN maintains a partnered café presence in Tokyo, Japan, reflecting our belief that good coffee and shared values transcend borders.

Rooted in Sabah and built with heart, our vision remains clear as we step into our second decade: to elevate coffee culture in Malaysia and beyond by refining experiences, uplifting local talent, and creating warm, welcoming spaces where every cup brings people together.
